Equality, Diversity and Inclusion are essential to creating a welcoming and supportive environment for everyone. By valuing each person’s unique background and perspective, we build a culture where individuals feel genuinely respected, encouraged to be themselves and inspired to contribute.

What EDI means to us
We’re proud of the progress we’ve made so far and we are striving to create a truly equal and inclusive workplace where every person’s abilities are valued and everyone has the opportunity to thrive. We believe fairness is the foundation of a positive and supportive working environment, that’s why we are working to remove barriers, challenge bias, and ensure that everyone is treated with dignity and respect. By actively promoting equal opportunities for all, we are building a workplace where every voice is heard, every contribution matters, and every individual has the chance to succeed.
Diversity is not just a value we uphold, it’s the foundation of who we are and how we move forward together. It’s more than the right thing to do; it’s central to our mission of making our trust the very best place to work and receive care. Our workforce includes colleagues from over 95 nationalities many from overseas and many from right here in our local communities. We are proud of the mix of cultures, perspectives, and lived experiences that shape our trust every day. Each individual brings something truly unique, and that diversity is our strength. By embracing and celebrating what makes us different and by committing to equity and inclusion, we create a place where everyone feels a deep sense of belonging.
Creating a truly inclusive workplace is fundamentally important to us. We are working towards building a culture where all individuals regardless of their age, disability, gender identity, marital or civil partnership status, pregnancy or maternity, race, religion or belief, sex, or sexual orientation feel supported, empowered, and able to thrive. Inclusion is not just about representation; it’s about creating spaces where everyone can be themselves.
Our networks
Through a number of our networks including the Ethnic Minority Network, LGBTQ+ Network, Disability Network, and Women’s Network, we offer safe, confidential spaces where people can share experiences, build connections, and feel a sense of belonging. With over 500 members, including both allies and staff from protected characteristic groups, the network has become a hub of shared purpose and support. There’s a genuine sense of optimism and determination to keep pushing forward, together, these networks are helping shape a workplace where diversity is understood, celebrated, and woven into everyday culture.

Our cultural community
The county is home to a rich and diverse history, shaped by rural, urban, and global communities, with over 95 nationalities and more than 100 languages spoken. We know how important it is to have a strong, meaningful connection with our local community, as these relationships play a vital role in helping us make a real difference in the lives of our patients and those we serve. We also recognise the powerful impact that collaboration has in improving health, wellbeing, and shaping healthcare services that truly meet the needs of our population.
Our new podcast series, Cultural Conversations, explores the heart of workplace culture and inclusion. Each episode offers a compelling mix of educational insight, addressing topics such as microaggressions, unconscious bias, and cultural competence, alongside real-life stories and powerful case studies that amplify the voices from every part of our Trust.
