Why be a
GHFT Midwife

Our goal is to help every person find the right environment for their birth, based on their personal choice. Whether that’s from one of our units or out in the community. You will have the chance to build trusting relationships with families during one of the most important moments in their lives. It’s an incredible opportunity to use your skills and knowledge to make a real difference. Our midwifery led care model is well developed and provides personalised care for the people of our county. We have a large team comprising Midwives, Maternity Support Workers and Obstetricians and we work closely with all members of the multidisciplinary team.

Ways of working

Most midwives are familiar with the terms ‘Rotational’, ‘Core’ and ‘Community’ but here at Gloucestershire Hospitals we can offer ‘hybrid’ opportunities.

Below includes the different types of models of care that we can offer, providing so much choice and a better work/life balance for you.

Our models of care

Rotational

Develop your skills in all clinical areas by regularly rotating between the inpatient unit areas.

Core

Become an expert in one clinical area, with opportunities to become a Core Midwife on the Delivery Suite, Birth Unit, Maternity Ward and Triage.

Community

Care for your own caseload within Gloucestershire throughout the antenatal and postnatal periods, with opportunities to attend home births.

Other ways of working

Talk to us if you would like to discuss other ways of working at Gloucestershire Hospitals.

Our team of specialists are here to guide and support you every step of the way, no matter where you are on your career journey. This initiative encourages you to explore local courses and development opportunities, enhancing your professional growth.

4 ways we support your journey

We’re always listening

Our Freedom To Speak Up team work alongside our leadership teams to support the organisation in becoming a more open and transparent place to work, where all staff are actively encouraged and enabled to speak up safely. We also have a variety of networks and groups dedicated to fostering innovation, driving positive change, and promoting inclusion and diversity.

A better work
life balance.

We understand that you may have commitments
outside of work, caring for children and family or
taking part in clubs or sports. That’s why there are
flexible working opportunities.

Maternity Support Workers at GHFT

Our Maternity Support Workers are a pivotal part of our workforce. Without Support Workers, we could not deliver the best care to our women and birthing people. We have so many incredible staff whose expertise, care and compassion are remarkable, delivering personalised care.
