Why work
at GHFT

We are a highly motivated and skilled group of professionals who strive to provide the best clinical service for our patients. We provide opportunities at all stages of your career, in a diverse range of specialties; not only will you have the chance to expand and enhance your clinical skills, but you will become part of a close working team within our organisation.

Over the years, many of our Locally Employed Doctors have successfully transitioned into training programmes or secured medical posts being it full or part-time. Although these stand alone medical posts are not part of the training pathway, we strive to offer the same training and education opportunities as those provided to Resident Doctors in training. This includes paid study leave, clinical supervision, and a wide range of internal and external training and development opportunities.

Our active Postgraduate Medical Education Centres, located on both of our sites, are key components of our Medical Executive Office. Here, we are developing multi-professional training that supports the ongoing growth and development of our medical workforce. We are committed and care about supporting our medical workforce in advancing their professional development at a pace that works for you. For those interested in pursuing the Portfolio Pathway to specialist registration, we can offer flexible training plans, dedicated Clinical Supervisors, and rotations in relevant departments to enhance your medical career aspirations.

Education and training

We offer invaluable experience, with exposure to a wide range of clinical presentations and diverse pathology. Trainees benefit from world-class trainers who are deeply committed to delivering high-quality patient care while fostering clinical excellence. We provide a strong foundation of support, including well-established opportunities for SuppoRTT and less than full-time training. All Resident Doctors are supported by a friendly and inclusive PGME team, dedicated to upholding and enhancing the standard of education and training across the organisation.

Research and
innovation

Our team is heavily involved in Clinical Research and actively involved and listed on the National Institute for Health and Research’s (NIHR) portfolio, a national information point of studies being run across the UK. We pride ourselves on contributing to the development of new treatments and surgical techniques to help improve the care of our patients. We are currently involved in over 100 clinical trials and other studies ranging from testing new surgical devices or drugs.
