When I first joined Gloucestershire Hospitals as a Trainee Healthcare Scientist, I was a recent graduate with little real-world experience and plenty of nerves. But from the very beginning, I felt genuinely supported—not just professionally, but personally too.

My department welcomed me warmly, going out of their way to help me settle into a new phase of life. Colleagues offered advice on accommodation, local transport, and were always willing to accommodate flexibility when life events came up. Their support extended far beyond general support—they took time to help me build confidence in my role, guided me with academic work, and patiently taught me practical skills that now form the backbone of my clinical practice.

What stood out most was the sense of community. I never felt like I was just another trainee passing through; I felt part of a team that truly cared for one another. Whether it was staying late to help with a project, sharing resources for coursework, or just checking in over coffee, the atmosphere was always collaborative and kind.

Training here has shaped not only my technical abilities but also my confidence, resilience, and appreciation for what it means to work in healthcare. I’m grateful to be part of a department that leads with compassion and lifts each other up.
